Clairvoyancy is the ability to “see” into the future and make predictions.

It is not something that can be learned. It is a psychic gift, and it carries with it a huge responsibility by the owner, to use it wisely, compassionately, and with sensitivity.

Clairvoyancy has nothing to do with the quality of a Tarot reading or a Tarot reader’s ability to read and interpret the cards well.

Readers that have the gift of “clairvoyancy” will use this technique in their readings, and be able to make predictions about the client’s future. Those that are not clairvoyant, will rely on the cards to give clues and messages in the readings, and many Tarot readers who are not clairvoyant are nevertheless gifted interpreters of the symbols, pictures and messages that abound in the cards.

A good Tarot reading depends totally on the skill and psychic interpretation of the reader, and as with every profession or ability in life, some people are more capable than others. Anyone, with a certain amount of application can learn to read the cards, but one who has more than the usual psychic and psychological insight can bring to the reading a broader, deeper, more subtle understanding.

Many good Tarot readers do however “channel” their readings (relying on messages and interpretations they receive from “spirit”), and can throw light, hope, and direction into even the worst of situations, sometimes suggesting solutions that we may have overlooked in our too close proximity to our problems.

Predictions and their positive/negative effects:
While a tarot reader who does have clairvoyant capabilities is often very attractive to a client seeking solutions to his/her problems, (or seeking a mere “fortune telling”), certain problems may arise from this type of reading. While predictions tend to satisfy people in the short term and fill them with a sense of security about their future, there can be pitfalls:
1. People often hang on to predictions and try to run their lives accordingly, either to manifest, or de-manifest them.
2. Predictions may or may not come true. Life circumstances can often interfere with, alter, or delay predictions and their potential outcomes.

When this occurs and the predictions do not take place or have an altered format, the client can get very upset, disappointed and even confused, leaving a lasting bad impression of both the reader and the art of Tarot reading in itself.

Reading Current Vibrations:
Most readers who do not have the gift of clairvoyancy focus instead on the current vibration of the client. They will address issues that arise during the reading which affect the immediate situations of the client’s life. Often they will give guidance and advice as to the handling of these situations and the possible outcomes, or potentiality for unfolding.

This is, I think, is the better way for a Tarot reader to work, as most people wanting a reading are seeking help or guidance with current problems and issues in their lives.

Expectations in a reading:
Many clients visit a Tarot reader expecting the reader to solve their problems. They expect the reader to pick up or identify the burning issue and give predictions on the outcome.
However - this is NOT how readings work at all. Often a burning question (or issue) will not present itself during a reading, and other aspects (sometimes deeper) of the person’s life which need addressing will appear in the spread of cards.

Therefore, my advice when having a Tarot reading: Be “open” to whatever comes up for you during the reading, rather than having pre-set ideas and expectations from the reader. In that way you will find the reading more satisfying and fulfilling. You will indeed value the message that you receive from the reader at that time, and often, your questions will be answered in a more subtle way than you expect.

Remember though – no readings are cast in stone. Sometimes difficult circumstances, which may follow a reading, can contribute to inaccuracies or distortions of the outcome of a reading.
